Jay 5ives relentless time spent in the studio over the last couple of years has seen the fruits of his labour rewarded with his first solo release, “Try Harder” and his collaborative effort with Kromestar, “Mind Pattern” & “Words”, picked up by Mala’s seminal record label, Deep Medi Musik!!
After producing the debut record for Deep Medi Musik way back in 2006, Kromestar makes his triumphant return to the label which has gone on to be one of the most respected and revered imprint in the scene.

Deepest Fears:
An orchestral choir sings out while weird and wonderful synths flutter and float around the mix. An equally unnatural and charismatic bass line moves in and out of an excitable hat arrangement. As the ghostly haunts of the Choir return they’re joined by new melodic content and the introduction of additional percussion opens a whole new dimension and exciting chapter to what seems like a book which may have multiple outcomes.

Enter the 404, kick and claps, as Backwoods tips it’s hat at the early 90’s west coast hip hop era, an assortment of pads and melodies create an eerie atmosphere as bouncy bass establish the theme, unorthodox strings and sweeps unite together to compliment subtle synth harmonies.

The VIP mixes of Don’t Make Sense and Outer Limits have been firm dancefloor favourites of both Kromestar’s and Om Unit’s sets in recent months. Outer Limits is given a beefier rhythmic underpinning while Don’t Make Sense sees its catchy lead melody roughened for the darker corners of the club.
Notable supporters have included Rinse FM’s Jay 5ive whose weekly Anti Social show is rarely without a Cosmic Bridge plate or two, Exit Records’ D Bridge included both of Kromestar’s Cosmic Bridge releases in a recent podcast while Hoya:Hoya’s Illum Sphere has also been known to bump Don’t Make Sense in the clubs. And there’s also been plenty of additional radio and DJ support for the Parallel Sounds EP from across the world.

Kromestar – Parallel Sounds EP (Cosmic Bridge)
Following from the Cosmic Bridge debut release – a collaboration with label head Om Unit titled Solar Cycle / Merkabah – UK bass music heavyweight Kromestar returns for the label’s second release with a solo four-track EP titled Parallel Sounds.
A pioneer of the early dubstep sound, Kromestar has spent most of the late 00s releasing on labels such as Mala Mystikz’s Deep Medi, Southside and Fantastic 3. Since 2010 he’s been busy exploring new sonic territories and this experimentation shines through this EP for Cosmic Bridge.
Across the four tracks, Kromestar delves into low-slung 80-90bpm realms while still exercising the bottom end pressure and infectious swing he’s become known for. Parallel Sounds also includes the hotly-tipped beatless production The Outer Limits a collaboration with Team Starfleet that does away with the standard template and results in a deeply unique experience.
The tracks on Parallel Sounds have been getting heavy rotation on Om Unit’s Maisonette Electronique podcasts as well as on his Boiler Room appearance (http://boilerroom.tv/om-units-45-min-mix/). Jay 5ive has also been supporting the music on the pioneering Rinse FM. Response so far has been both positive and overwhelming leading to this release in the closing months of 2011.
Alongside his forthcoming releases on the Bass N’ Love label, the Parallel Sounds EP sheds more light on Kromestar as a producer genuinely not afraid to continue moving forward and experiment sonically. It will also no doubt cement him as a producer worth checking out for each and everytime as we enter 2012. Genre-wise we’ll leave it up to you… Just don’t go crazy now!
